Denton ISD’s new employees receive warm welcome from the Chamber and its members

Denton ISD and the Denton Chamber of Commerce welcomed the school district’s new employees at the annual New Employee Reception on Wednesday, August 13 at the Popo and Lupe Gonzalez School for Young Children. With 327 newly employed staff and faculty, the event was well-attended by DISD and sponsoring businesses alike.

“The annual New Employee Reception truly exemplifies the commitment the community has in supporting education at all levels,” said Sharon Cox, Denton ISD Director of Public Information.

New employees had the opportunity to visit with over 30 chamber businesses—at their representative booths—who sponsored this event (sponsorship levels ranging from $50 to $500 contributions). Some sponsors had also previously contributed to gift bags by providing coupons, free items, and samples that were given to each new Denton ISD employee upon hiring. Chamber member restaurants also provided over 300 gift cards that were entered into random drawings held at the reception.

Lunch was provided by local Denton-area restaurants and underwritten by Balfour Beatty and VLK Architects.

Jacqueline Jackson, Executive Director of the Denton Public School Foundation stated, “[The] event was a great success – and the Denton Chamber of Commerce and the Adopt-A-School: Partners in Education program pledged to give half of the money raised from vendor sponsorships to go toward teacher grants for first year DISD teachers.  This amounts to 9 or 10 new $500 grants for this year!” The money was presented at the end of the reception for a total of $4600.

“Every new employee, […] who attended this great event, left feeling like what they would be doing in Denton ISD was extremely valued,” said Sharon Cox.

The Denton Chamber of Commerce welcomes all the new employees to the school district and would also like to thank all of the participating businesses for their contributions to this event.
