A Cause for Celebration

The rich aroma of freshly pressed waffles and lively conversations permeated the room at Best Western Premier Crown Chase Inn & Suites on Tuesday, September 15th, as attendees congregated for the much anticipated Women in Commerce (WINC) In the Mix networking event. A bubble bar, stocked with sparkling wines and fresh fruits created a celebratory ambiance to coincide with the spirit of this exclusive event.

On the list of causes for celebration was the unveiling of the new WINC branding, as well as a sneak peek of the most notable women’s event in Denton—the Women in Commerce Fall Luncheon & Conference.

WINC committee member Pat Sherman (DATCU), led a short but very informative program which began with introductions of the committee, Chamber board members, and President Chuck Carpenter.

Committee Chair Carolyn Corporon (Sally Beauty), then took the podium to elaborate on the mission of WINC and the positive impact that this initiative is making on the Denton community. Surprise guests included Dr. Carine Feyten, TWU Chancellor & President, who arrived to show her support.

A featured guest update was presented by Dr. Margaret Young, the new Director of Texas Woman’s University’s School of Management and newest WINC committee member. On her “90th day” on the job, Dr. Young expressed her enthusiasm for exciting projects that lie ahead for TWU SOM, including recently acquired grant funding for a women’s business center. Furthermore, she welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with the Chamber of Commerce on initiatives like WINC that will continue to position the university as the largest institution of higher education for women.

Pat Sherman once again took the podium to share exclusive details about the Fall Luncheon & Conference, to be held at TWU Hubbard Hall on Friday, October 16th.

The theme of this year’s event is “Your Brand: Its Personal” which will feature three dynamic speakers who will discuss looking the part and feeling your best as a means of confidently pursuing your career goals. Tiffany Taylor, Celebrity Makeup Artist; Denise Walthers, Author and CEO of the DW Group; and Tessa Todd Morgan, Founder of TRIESSENCE will enlighten attendees about fashion, beauty and inner wellbeing via an interactive program designed to motivate and empower.

Components such as the Marketplace, WINC themed shirts, and fabulous giveaways will make their return, but there is a new and exciting addition to the 2015 program. Five lucky winners of the WINC Casting Call will be selected to partake in a makeover and photo shoot the day before the event and will also make a special appearance during the program on Friday, October 16th. Women who will be in attendance at the Luncheon & Conference and are employed by a member of the Chamber of Commerce are encouraged to enter.
